Tanzania – Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti

Northern Tanzania
Day 1 Departure from Sweden
Day 2 Arusha – Manyara National Park – Karatu
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro airport you will be met by your guide. In the morning you continue by car to Lake Manyara National Park where you arrive just in time to have your picnic lunch. The park is largely wooded, unlike most other parks in the Great Rift Valley. The northern part of the park consists of dense and high groundwater forest, where there are plenty of baboons, blue marquises, elephants and silver-cheeked rhinoceros birds. In the acacia forest further south you can see, for example, buffalo, giraffes, lions and zebras, and along the lake shore in the east pelicans, cormorants and storks. Late in the afternoon you travel on towards your lodge. In time for dinner you will arrive at the lodge which is beautifully situated overlooking the Great Rift Valley.
Camp: Plantation Lodge, Karatu (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Day 3 Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast you continue your safari with a full day trip to Ngorongoro and you head down into the old volcanic crater with its exceptional wildlife. The crater floor is filled with wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, black rhinos, hyenas and jackals to name a few of the inhabitants. After a full day safari, return to your lodge on the payoff of the Great Rift Valley.
Camp: Plantation Lodge, Karatu (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Day 4 Karatu – Southern Serengeti
In the afternoon you then continue to the southernmost parts of the Serengeti National Park, about 2 hours. Along the way you get your first experience of the fantastic wildlife here. The whole afternoon will be one long safari. In time for dinner you arrive at your camp. You live these nights in a “mobile camp” that moves during the year to be always close to “the great migration” with almost one million animals. The safari tents take guests back to the days of big game hunters with all the amenities close at hand and yet located on a separate part of the African savannah.

Day 5, 6 Southern Serengeti
The Serengeti has set the standard according to which all national parks are measured. Despite its fame, popularity and sometimes bad reputation, the park remains wild and untouched once you get away from the great safari routes. The park’s superstars are the wildebeest. Every year, about 1.2 million wildebeest migrate up to 1,000 kilometers within the Serengeti driven in an eternal cycle of access to pasture and water. The Serengeti ecosystem extends far beyond the boundaries of the park in what is called the greater Serengeti. Your mobile camp is inspired by the old big game hunters. The camp is completely mobile and always moves in the footsteps of migration. In this way, all guests, together with their guide, can always get as close to a million wildebeest as possible. This day will be long and full of impressions. Both mornings and afternoons are spent on safari. You eat lunch out on the savannah. When you return to your camp, it is probably late afternoon, but there is still some time left until bedtime. If you prefer to make shorter trips near the camp and take a siesta in your tent in the middle of the day, you can agree with your guide on this. The focus is naturally on exploring the Serengeti with your guides, but do not forget to enjoy the camp. The atmosphere is relaxed and familiar, a maximum of twelve guests are in the camp at the same time and after enjoying a joint dinner and talking through the day’s experiences by the fire, your tent is just a short distance away on your very own part of the Serengeti. Day 7 Southern Serengeti – Northern Serengeti
In the morning, the journey continues with flights to the northernmost parts of the Serengeti National Park. From the air you get your first experience of the fantastic wildlife here. On arrival you will be met by your safari guide for transport the last bit to your safari camp. The whole afternoon will be one long safari. In time for dinner you arrive at the camp. Lamai Serengeti opened in June 2011 and is located in the northernmost part of the park, just south of the border with the Masai Mara in Kenya. 99% of all visitors to the Serengeti never reach the northern parts of the park and those who visit the Masai Mara are not allowed to cross the border into Tanzania. You can not get further from congestion and large lodges than this in the Serengeti.
Camp: Lamai Serengeti, Serengeti (full board including drinks)
Day 8, 9 Norra Serengeti
Two full days to enjoy the safari from Lamai Camp. Choose between accompanying the camp’s own cars and guides on an early “game drive” and when it is warmest you take it easy in your camp. During the afternoon and evening you also have the opportunity to accompany your guides on safari on foot or night safari. For those who do not want to join guided activities, a good alternative is to just want to relax by what is probably one of Tanzania’s most beautifully located pools.
